The mailman knows where to deliver your mail because of
your unique address. The phone company knows how to route a call to
your phone because of a similar system. On the internet each site has its own
unique
address so that computers that store web sites can find other web sites. These
domains are also referred to as URLs or Universal Resource Locators, which is
another way of describing the address of a web site. Our domain here is bridgewaydesign.com.
Is Bridgeway Design the cheapest place to buy domains?
No. There are a few companies selling domains very inexpensively. We've seen some as low as $8.88 but you should be aware of how they can do this. We've all heard the saying "You get what you pay for", right? Well, by law all domain registrars must pay a company called Network Solutions a fee of $8.00 for index management services.
Obviously, it costs money to build a web site, advertise it, pay transaction
fees on credit card payments, pay employee salaries, etc.
So how can they do all that on only 88 cents? Some of these
outfits
will barely "break-even" by
selling domain names for such a low price.
So what is it? Perhaps it's the old Postal Services joke, "We lose a few cents on each letter, but we make up for it in volume." Unfortunately, that's not the case. They can make a profit by SELLING YOUR INFORMATION TO SPAMMERS!
So, we charge a very competitive rate (see our Pricing page)
while still being able to make it worth our while.
